When the University of Calgary was chosen to host the 2016 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, we made sure to attend the preceding Congresses at Brock University and at the University of Ottawa to learn all we could. It's now our turn; we've taken what we've learned, added our own blend of Calgary hospitality, and created what we hope to be an outstanding experience.
As a proud ambassador of both the university and of Calgary, let me be the first to welcome you to our campus and to our city. We couldn't be prouder of both!
With over 8,000 attendees ready to make the most of Congress, preparations are being undertaken all over campus. From an accommodations perspective, with 1,600 attendees staying on campus, we needed to make sure every room was ready to go. Rest assured… all is prepared for your stay.
In addition, we want you to take as full advantage of what campus and the city have to offer.
The campus offers many beautiful green spaces, as does the city. Spring in Calgary is amazing, and we hope you find some time to enjoy our outdoor spaces.
For those who might prefer a more retail-focused break, Market Mall, one of Calgary's largest shopping centers, is located within driving and walking distance of campus.
Kensington, an eclectic and exciting neighbourhood, is a few train stops away. This area features independent coffee houses, taverns and an assortment of unique shops.
Just past Kensington, you'll find Calgary's downtown core. Hotel Alma staff will be happy to help you with plans to tour the Calgary Tower, the Glenbow Museum, the Calgary Zoo or to point out some great urban walking trails along the Bow River.
