Federation Member Forum with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council on Open Access and the Aid to Scholarly Journals funding opportunity

The Federation and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) invite you to a Member Forum on the sustainability of Canadian scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences and the transition to immediate Open Access (OA) within the Aid to Scholarly Journals (ASJ) funding opportunity.

Hosted in partnership with SSHRC, the Forum will discuss the role of SSHRC’s ASJ in the context of the current review of the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications (OA Policy).

As you may know, the tri-agencies are currently reviewing the OA Policy with the goal of requiring any peer-reviewed journal publications arising from agency-supported research to be freely available, without subscription fee, at the time of publication. The renewed policy will be released by the end of 2025. Transitioning ASJ to immediate open access will provide Canadian social sciences and humanities researchers with high quality venues that are compliant with the renewed OA Policy and in which they may publish their research results.

SSHRC is delaying the next cycle of ASJ to allow for engagement with stakeholders and partners to facilitate an effective, sustainable and equitable transition of ASJ towards immediate open access. The Forum will be an important opportunity for Federation members to share input with SSHRC and help inform this transition.

The Member Forum will take place over Zoom on Wednesday, March 27 from 13:00 to 15:00 Eastern Time. Please RSVP at the following link or register a designate in your place here.
