Financial support to associations related to Congress 2024

Greetings,

I am writing to inform you of the Federation’s decision regarding the financial support to associations related to Congress 2024.

Congress 2024 took place under uniquely challenging circumstances, including the strike by the Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) and a pro-Palestinian encampment on campus. As an immediate response, the Federation made its virtual platform available to associations to move their conferences online. Moreover, the Board of Directors committed to examining the possibility of providing financial support after Congress, in recognition of the various challenges associations faced.

On August 20, 2024, following a comprehensive review, the following framework for financial redistribution to associations related to Congress 2024 was approved:

  1. Each association will receive a financial contribution equivalent to 10% of their gross Congress 2024 conference fee revenues.
    • Minimum and maximum amounts have been set to accommodate the significant range in the size of associations and relatedly, the revenues they can generate through conference fees.
  2. Your association will be offered additional support for the delivery of its 2025 conference at George Brown College, should you choose to opt in. Associations will be consulted to determine what might best address their needs.

Please note that disbursements of Congress 2024 contributions will appear under “Revenues” on your Congress 2024 statement of accounts.

An information session is scheduled for August 28, 2024, where we will discuss the decision in more detail, and address any questions you may have about this support, as well as about plans for Congress 2025 and beyond. You may also send any questions to membership@federationhss.ca.

You will receive a meeting invitation for the session shortly.

You can opt in to Congress 2025 here.

We are still planning to hold consultations with members on the future of Congress and will be sharing the details in the fall. Until then, we do welcome any feedback you may have.

As the new academic year approaches, I wish you an excellent new term and thank you for your engagement.

Sincerely,

Karine Morin
