Big Thinking at Congress 2018
Diversity and reconciliation
“Gathering diversities” — a compelling Congress theme…and a national provocation for Canada! Our positive national image as a diverse country follows a century and a half of public policies and educational omissions aimed to wipe out diversity. The recent Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) reveals the glaring gaps that persist between the realities of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Can diversity now serve as an agent for ongoing reconciliation needed to address historical failings? Former TRC Commissioner, Marie Wilson, explores the issue through the lens of her TRC experiences and life in Northern Canada.
