Alan Liu, founder of 4Humanities, argues that the humanities are essential for a culture that values discovery, innovation and technological advancement as much as we do. He argues that we need to understand the social, ethical and cultural shifts surrounding advancement in technology and science in order to truly be innovative and responsive to a shifting world.

An editorial published in Nature counters the United States Congress’ proposed cuts to political science funding, arguing that the elimination of evidence-based research on a nation’s policies has no place in a healthy democracy.

Gareth Morris, writing for Impact of Social Sciences, explains how his team published their research on homelessness as a graphic novel (Somewhere Nowhere: Lives Without Homes) and the ways in which that format added value to the research and made it more accessible to people working as advocates and service providers to the homeless. Closer to home, Memorial University is also experimenting with presenting research through the graphic novel format.
