Dear members of the social science and humanities community,
Today I am thrilled to announce that the Federation will be partnering with York University in 2023 to bring together the first in-person Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences since 2019.
Congress 2023 will take place at York’s Keele and Glendon Campuses in Toronto, where up to 10,000 scholars, graduate students and practitioners in the humanities and social sciences will come together and share their research face-to-face in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference will support equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID), and, building on the first virtual Congress in 2021, feature virtual components to accommodate participants joining remotely.
York’s chief ambassador for Congress 2023 will be Dr. Andrea Davis, who as Academic Convenor will liaise with faculty, students, administrators, and community partners to build an exciting Congress program.
Davis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at York University, where she teaches courses in Black Cultures of the Americas. Dr. Davis established and coordinates the Black Canadian Studies Certificate at York and is co-editor of the Journal of Canadian Studies. She is also former Chair of the Department of Humanities and former academic colleague on the Council of Ontario Universities. Davis’ first activities in her new role will be to finalize the theme for Congress 2023, which will be shared in the coming months.
Congress 2023 will take place from May 27 to June 2, 2023. York University last hosted Congress in 2006.
We look forward to welcoming all of you at Congress 2023.
Best regards,
Gabriel Miller
