OTTAWA, February 21, 2013 – The Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2013 Canada Prizes. The Canada Prizes are awarded annually to the best scholarly books in the humanities and social sciences that have received funding from the Awards to Scholarly Publications Program.
Celebrating the best Canadian scholarly books across all the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences, the Canada Prizes are awarded to books that make an exceptional contribution to scholarship, are engagingly written, and enrich the social, cultural and intellectual life of Canada.
“The Canada Prizes represent some of the most important scholarship taking place in Canada today,” said Graham Carr, president of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. “We congratulate the finalists, and look forward to celebrating their excellent work at the awards ceremony next month.”

The winners of the 2013 Canada Prizes will be announced in mid-March and the prizes, each valued at $2,500, will be presented by distinguished author and public intellectual John Ralston Saul at the awards ceremony on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel.
