A message from Federation’s Board Chair Annie Pilote

News
January 17, 2024

Dear members of the Federation,

I am writing today to share that Gabriel Miller will step down as President and CEO of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences as of March 8, in order to join Universities Canada as their new President and CEO.

Gabriel has successfully led the Federation since 2017, bringing his wealth of experience in not-for-profit leadership to serve our membership of 160 scholarly associations and universities, representing a community of 90,000 researchers and graduate students.

Under his leadership, the Federation strengthened its culture, governance, and member services, and addressed extraordinary challenges to become a more innovative, inclusive and impactful organization.

The Board and I have immediately begun an executive search, and interim plans will be announced before Gabriel’s departure. Our goal is to have a permanent President and CEO by June 2024.

The Board and I will be working with the Federation’s outstanding staff team to ensure all Federation activities – including planning for Congress 2024 – carry on in a smooth and efficient manner.

On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to express our profound gratitude to Gabriel for his contributions, and wish him the very best in his new role.

Thank you all for your collaboration during this transition, and we will be in touch with an update soon.

Sincerely,

Annie Pilote
Chair, Board of Directors
Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences
