Over the years, our Big Thinking lecture series at Congress has boasted some highly influential speakers, and this year we are proud to present Louise Arbour, one of Canada’s most highly renowned legal figures. Formerly serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Ms. Arbour is now President of the International Crisis Group, an independent not-for-profit organization committed to preventing and resolving deadly conflict. Her talk, entitled “Over the edge: Deadly conflict in an interconnected world”, will examine the implications for human rights, justice, security and prosperity in the context of modern inequalities, international conflict prevention, and technological progress. With a career that has involved serving as Chief Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and for Rwanda, Louise Arbour knows a great deal about issues “@ the edge” of humanity. Her lecture is sure to be insightful, enlightening, and inspiring, and will take place on Saturday June 1st, from 12:15-1:20 PM in the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium.
