On Tuesday, The Federation, in partnership with the Canada Foundation for Innovation, organized a panel discussion at the 2012 Canadian Science Policy Conference in Calgary, Alberta, on the topic of “Building sustainable health care: Policies, perceptions and an aging population,” featuring Janice Keefe, Canada Research Chair in Aging and Caregiving, Antonia Maioni (pictured), president-elect of the Federation, and doctor and consultant Michael Rachlis.
The panel was covered by several news channels, including Radio-Canada’s Le café show, which interviewed Antonia Maioni. The Calgary Herald and 660 News also covered the talk.
Last week, the Toronto Star featured an article by Rick Salutin on why universities should not be considered job-training factories and why the humanities, arts and social sciences have value beyond training students for a job. Todd Pettigrew of MacLeans On Campus also defended the liberal arts from charges of uselessness.
