The British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences recently published a collection of essays addressing the future of scholarly open access practices, which consider their implications for the social sciences and humanities fields and suggest a more nuanced approach to open access policy. The collection, entitled Debating Open Access, is (obviously) available for free, and can be accessed here.
The debate about social sciences and humanities education in the United States still rages on in response to last month’s Heart of the Matter report from the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. News articles and opinion pieces continue to emerge in The New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education, and many readers have responded through letters to the editor.
The Canadian Historical Association (CHA) has released their call for papers for their Annual Meeting, which will be held at the 2014 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences at Brock University. The CHA Annual Meeting will take place from May 26-28, and will address the theme “Boundaries of Historical Inquiry”. The deadline for members to submit presentations is October 18, 2013. Finally, the Canadian University Music Society has changed its acronym from "CUMS-SMUC" to "MusCan", which is applicable in both English and French.
