Proposals for the 2014 Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) Conference are due on September 30th, 2013. The CCPH is a nonprofit organization based in Seattle, WA that promotes health equity and social justice through partnerships between communities and academic institutions. The conference is set to take place in Chicago, IL from April 30-May 3, 2014, and the theme is "From Rhetoric to Reality: Achieving Authentic, Equitable & Transformative Partnerships". The CCPH is welcoming proposals for skill-building workshops, creative arts sessions, roundtable discussions and more.
Remember the American Academy of Arts and Science’s Heart of the Matter report? Since its release this past June, the state of humanities education has been discussed and debated by scholars, journalists, and politicians across international news outlets and the internet. Last night, the humanities were brought even further into the spotlight when Richard Brodhead, President of Duke University and co-chair of the Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences (which authored the Heart of the Matter) was featured in the interview segment of comedian Stephen Colbert’s satirical news program, The Colbert Report (a great platform for the humanities – satire is a powerful tool for communication, as any English major can tell you). The episode is now available for streaming online in both the United States and in Canada.
