Following Vice-Chair of the Federation Board Annie Pilote’s presentation to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Science and Research, the Federation submitted a written brief to the committee’s study on Research and Scientific Publication in French. Read the submission


Join the Publications Committee for the Awards to Scholarly Publications Program

Are you interested in helping to promote original Canadian research in the humanities and social sciences? The Federation is seeking experienced scholars, particularly with a history or philosophy background and French language proficiency, to join the ASPP Publications Committee. I can't breathe: feeling suffocated by the polite racism in Canada's graduate schools - A survey of 76 racialized students and a panel of discussion for Black, Indigenous and other students of colour showed that many of the respondents have been told to minimize their experience and avoid conflict. Canada: emphasis on diversity, access, belonging and pathways needed post pandemic - After the COVID-19 pandemic, a key focus for international education, as it has been discussed in the Canadian Bureau of International Education held in Toronto, is finding balance. Read more.

The Government of Canada and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation launch a new funding opportunity to support Reconciliation Network in response to Call to Action 65 - This initiative will see the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council investing up to $6 million to support a national research program. Trudeau pledges Francophone support - At the 18th Francophonie Summit in Tunisia, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau promoted the value of French language and studying in Canada. Trudeau also announced a $20.8 million in funding over four years for the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. Read more. 

English only? The Emergencies Act inquiry showed Canada's hostility towards Francophones - The Public Order Emergency Commission is bringing into the light debates over how bilingual Canada really is. Read more.

Funding disparities are pushing Canadians to enroll in U.S. doctoral programs - The stipend difference between the U.S. and Canada is the principal factor that pushes graduate students to choose the U.S. for their doctorate. Read more.

National survey on knowledge mobilisation practices in the social sciences, humanities, and arts by McMaster University - Researchers at McMaster University are seeking to engage academics and practitioners to share their valuable input in a survey aiming to understand knowledge mobilisation practices in the social sciences, humanities, and arts. The Government of Canada announces new funding to support Black scholars - This new funding will support Black scholars at the undergraduate, masters, doctoral, postdoctoral and post-health professional degree stages. Read more.
